A PhD abroad is meant for an academic career, which involves teaching and research. Field of Academics has many good points as a career - Although we work hard, we don't think of it as hard work because we work for ourselves rather than somebody else! We choose our research topics to work on, we choose our timings (except when we are teaching), and do not have short-term deadlines.

Also, we have the benefit of being in campus environments around bright colleagues and enthusiastic young students like you were?. You will be happy to know that the salary in accounting and finance starting salaries for newly graduated PhDs is in the range USD 160,000-195,000.

A PhD takes about four to five years to complete. Most schools pay PhD students stipends ranging from USD 20,000-25,000 or more, plus free tuition.

While your ISB degree does qualify you to apply for PhD directly, without having to join the academic associates program, there are some benefits to joining as an Academic Associate. Here are a few:

  • Professors will know you better if you have worked for them as a research or teaching assistant. If you have only     taken a class from them they do not know you well enough, and recommendations based on thorough knowledge of a person are considered stronger.
  • You can learn more about PhD programmes by being around faculty here. You can also take additional courses to  strengthen your application.
  • We have consulted several PhD programme directors and they agree that the experience you gain as an   Academic Associate will be an added advantage and will strengthen your application.
  • Total emoluments will be fixed commensurate with qualifications and experience of the selected candidates and  will range from Rs 31,000 – Rs 38,000 approximately per month
  • Because you are an alum, we will reimburse your educational loan repayment at actuals, subject to a maximum of     Rs 15,000/- per month during your tenure as academic associate.
  • During your course of research work, if your paper is qualified for a reputed international conference, all the expenses including travel, accommodation and any other fees to attend and present your paper will be taken care by the ISB. ISB is one of the very few schools across the world which extends this support!
  • Last but not the least you have the opportunity to provide good quality support; strengthening your association with your alma matter!

While we understand that for most of you, Academic Associate is the first point towards your PhD, please be informed that the following basic responsibilities need to be fulfilled as an Academic Associate:
