Alma Matters
Issue 7 - May, 2010

Dear Alum,

The Class of 2011 is slowly settling in on campus and Term 1 is coming to an end. The GSB president elections have taken place and Atma Shivalanka has been elected the GSB President for the Class of 2011. Atma has a background in geophysics and energy and has some great ideas for this Class. We wish him all the best.

Volunteers in all our Chapters have started planning events for the next six months. The Kolkata and Chennai chapters have formally welcomed the Class of 2010 alums into the alum fold and the Hyderabad chapter is organising a fabulous Sunday brunch on the 30th of May to do the same. The Mumbai chapter is organising a very well coordinated event on the 12th of June, at JOSS (Kala Ghoda) and the Delhi chapter is planning a get together at the Gymkhana club on the same day. More details about these events are available in the Alumni Association section of this newsletter. I urge you all to take part in these activities and help in creating more vibrant chapters.

The USA chapter organised an informal meet mid February which was attended by close to 20 alums and another event on the 30th of April to meet with Savita Mahajan (CEO, Mohali Campus), Gautam Khungar (Director, Mohali Campus ) and Professor Vinay Nair which was very well received and attended by 25 alums. We are working closely with the chapter representatives to organise many more events in the near future.

We have recently partnered with Ivy Exec, a leading pre-screened job site for professionals from elite MBA programmes, which has offered its services free to ISB alumni for a fixed period of 6 months. Ivy Exec’s other partners include Wharton, Columbia Business School, Yale School of Management, Fuqua School of Business, Johnson School at Cornell, Tuck School of Business, as well as the Kellogg School of Management. The details of their services and the partnership have been sent in an email to you all. Do use this service and let us know what your feedback is. The School is invested in your future and we hope to roll out a lot more as career support for all alumni.

I also wanted to remind you that we are all subscribed to Indiaknowledge@wharton with our ISB email ids. I hope you find this service useful. In case you need more information you can get it here

We will soon be starting our ‘Buddy program’ earlier know as the mentorship program. This is where we ask alumni to volunteer their time to guide specific students through their year at the ISB and beyond. This has been a very popular initiative and many of us have made lifelong friends through this. In fact to a question in the Dean’s survey, many from the outgoing class of 2010 said that they admired and were most influenced by their alum mentor!

As usual do send us feedback at alumni_relations@isb.edu or write to me directly at nidhi_reddy@isb.edu

Warm wishes,

Nidhi
