Alma Matters
Issue 5 - March, 2010

Dear Alum,

March was full of activities, with our famous ‘Holi on Campus’, the Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC), the disorientation week for the Class of 2010 and various research seminars, all a big hit. We organised the ‘Women in Business’ conference which was very well received. A seminar on New Business Models for Sustainable & Affordable Innovation was conducted in association with Cambridge Judge Business School, details of which you can read on the homepage of this newsletter.

March also saw us conduct our first ever alumni leadership workshop along with the ISB Alumni Association, to encourage more alumni participation, to strengthen the network and to give alumni a platform to hone their leadership skills. We are designing Life-long learning programmes especially for alumni and chalking out various initiatives which will raise the brand value of the alum as well as the ISB brand itself. Details will be published in a month or so. All alumni chapters are also gearing up for various events planned from now through November and expect to hear from chapter representatives very soon. I urge you all to update your contact information on the alumni portal or just write to us and we’ll make the necessary changes.
The Class of 2010 graduated on the 3rd of April and it was a beautiful ceremony as always. Kapil Sibal, the Union HRD minister was the convocation guest and speaker. The hall was packed with super proud families of the graduating class and we had many other distinguished guests who attended and showed their continuing support to the School. The ceremony was also attended by more than half of our Executive Board including Adi Godrej, Rahul Bajaj, Analjit Singh, Kiran Majumdar Shaw, K P Singh, and Sanjay Nayar.

We now have 570 more alumni in the alum fold, and I welcome the Class of 2010 into this exclusive club. With their energy, enthusiasm and drive, I know they are really going to make their presence feltJ. With each graduating class, our network grows stronger and the net gets spread wider. Not only do we have more members in our community but they also bring with them their high school networks, their under grad networks and their previous corporate associations. How we derive benefit from all this depends on the relationships we build with each other. I sincerely hope that we all will make an effort to do this.

This is the only week when we do not have any students on campus and it’s quite a surreal feeling. The Class of 2011 comes in on the 10th of April and the whole cycle begins again. This year we want alumni from all classes to be part of the orientation team, to give their perspectives to the new class and build a connect. In case you are interested in doing this, do let us know.

Looking forward to hearing from you…with suggestions, feedback and news about what’s happening in your life.

Cheers!
Nidhi
