“Thinking Fast and Slow”, by Daniel Kahneman
This book is about understanding our inherent cognitive biases & heuristics that drive our day-to-day decision making. The book is written by the Daniel Kahneman who won the Economics Nobel Prize in 2002 for his ground-breaking work in developing "Prospect Theory" that explains human psychology of judgement and decision making.
“Creativity Inc”, by Ed Catmull
This book is for business leaders who want to create and nurture a culture of creativity and innovation to drive business growth and is written by Ed Catmull who co-founded (with Steve Jobs) Pixar Animation - the world's first full-stack studio for fully animated videos. The book draws from the author’s real-world experience of managing high-potential and high-impact teams without letting them bogged down by internal bureaucracy and politics while delivering cutting edge hits like Toy Story & Finding Nemo.
“Anti-Fragile”, by Nassim Nicholas Taleb
This book takes a provocative look at uncertainty and advocates that it should be desirable rather than be shunned. The underlying reasoning lies within the term "Anti-fragile". Anti-fragile is anything that becomes stronger when subjected to external shocks, disturbances etc. The author says that the Anti-fragile are immune from obsolescence and free from impact of adverse events such as the Financial crisis of 2008. This book is written by N N Taleb who also wrote "The Black Swan" and "Fooled by Randomness", both of which are best-sellers.
Recommended Reading by Saurabh Prasad
Saurabh graduated from IIT Kharagpur in 2005 and from ISB in 2010 (PGP). Prior to joining ISB, he had approximately 4 years of experience almost evenly split between the software and financial services sectors. Post ISB, he joined Standard Chartered in the Institutional Research team as an Analyst covering cement, metal & mining sectors. His hobbies include reading books and listening to music.
“The Brain that Changes Itself”, by Norman Doidge
This book challenges the hypothesis that our brain functions in a rigidly compartmentalized way. It says that the brain has a remarkable power to re-organize itself and talks about neuro-plasticity in a very lucid manner. The case studies highlighted are like an eye opener. I would recommend this to people who have an interest in medical science.
