Global Major Appliances : Industry Overview and Future Hotspots Post Recession : The global economic downturn of 2008 and 2009 had a significant impact on sales of major appliances, with consumers reluctant to spend. Sales of major appliances have since returned to growth, thanks to robust demand in emerging regions like Asia Pacific and Latin America.

Supply Chain Sustainability in India : This research outlines opportunities arising in logistics as well as the importance of maintaining the sustainability of supply chains for the logistics sector. Most leading multinational logistics service providers have well-established operations in India, offering domestic and international logistics solutions.

Private Equity and Venture Capital Investment Trends in Global Chemicals and Materials Industry : Private equity is risk capital provided in a wide variety of situations. It can range from finance provided to business start-ups to the purchase of large, mature quoted companies. The private placements deal volume increased from 2008 to 2011 primarily driven by commodity chemicals.

Merger and Acquisition Trends in the Global Aerospace and Defense Industry : M&A activity in the aerospace and defense industry is currently restrained, which is reflected in the decline in both transaction value and volume. The deal activity is expected to stay low until the full impact of sequestration can be ascertained by industry participants. On the aerospace front, the replacement need for old aircraft and aviation growth in emerging economies is expected to drive M&A activity.

Banking Industry in India : There has been a consistent rise in the number of reporting offices of commercial banks which grew at a CAGR of 5.8% during 2006-12 periods. The new age banks, equipped with modern technology and customer centric policies, have made great strides in the past decade.

Should My Spouse Be My Partner? Preliminary Evidence From the Panel Study of Income Dynamics : This study examines how firm performance and family income are affected when an “owner-managed” firm transitions to a “copreneurial” business. Data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics were used to track changes in firm performance and family income from 1996 to 2006 during which time an owner-manager decided to partner with his spouse.

Business Students’ Attitudes toward Innovation and Intentions to Start Their Own Businesses : This research integrates perspectives from models of entrepreneurial intentions and attitude theory to examine the nature of the relationship between business students’ attitudes toward innovation and their intentions to start their own businesses. Multiple regression analysis revealed a positive association between attitude toward the distal and broad object of innovation and intentions of US business students to engage in the specific behavior of starting a business.

Why Saying “I’m Sorry” Isn’t Good Enough : The Ethics of Corporate Apologies : The number of corporate apologies has increased dramatically during the past decade. This article delves into the ethics of apologies offered by chief executive officers (CEOs).

Women and the Economics of Equality : If women in the United States, Japan, and Egypt were employed at the same rates as men, the GDPs of those countries would be higher by 5%, 9%, and 34%, respectively. So how can countries increase women's economic participation? Researchers at Booz & Company examined that question by evaluating more than 100 countries. Here are the findings.

A Double-edged Sword : Transformational Leadership and Individual Creativity: Leadership research has focused on the positive effects of transformational and charismatic leadership but has neglected the negative side effects. Addressing this gap, we analysed followers' dependency on the leader as a relevant negative side effect in the relationship between transformational leadership and followers' creativity and developed an integrative framework on parallel positive and negative effects of transformational leadership.

Ross to Use Team-Based Interviews for MBA Admissions
: The Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan plans to launch team-based interviews as part of its MBA admissions process for 2014. The interviews, unlike traditional one-on-one or group interviews, will bring together several applicants to give the admissions team a chance to evaluate them on how they interact. Ross is the second major business school to experiment with this approach.

Women and Graduate Management Education : Women are changing the face of graduate management education and bringing their unique talents to the workplace. Business degrees provided women in the class of 2012 a competitive advantage and improved their chances of finding a job that meets their expectations. Testing year 2012 had the lowest male-to-female ratio (1.33) in GMAT history. The annual growth rate among women (4.3%) for the past 10 years was nearly double the growth rate for men.

Smart classes : IIMs to share faculty online : In a first-of-its-kind attempt, IIMs are planning to introduce ‘smart classes’, which could be shared among all centres of the institute online. The move, aimed at beating the faculty crunch, is expected to involve global universities, too. The proposal for these classes is going to be top on agenda when the directors of the 13 IIMs meet HRD Minister Pallam Raju. IIMs have currently been working with 30 % fewer faculty members than requirement.

Can Globalization Be Taught in B-School? : As companies seek individuals who can work anywhere in the world, plenty of U.S. business schools claim they’re “going global,” adding weeklong jaunts to China, Korea or Brazil and increasing the share of international students in their classes. But that’s not enough to train tomorrow’s leaders, argues Professor Pankaj Ghemawat. In order to prepare students for a global business environment, he says, schools must do a better job explaining globalization—and its many limits.
