Wish You All A Very Happy and Prosperous New Year
We have seen lots of ups and downs in the past two months. It was a mix of joyous moments and few incidents which tried to pull us back. As Ajit Rangnekar rightly said “We at the ISB have never let others decide our
destiny. I invite each of you to come together to create our own destiny”.
We stand united and come what may, face the challenges united.
As all of you must be aware Professor M R Rao has resigned as
the Dean of ISB with effect from January 8, 2009. We are in the
process of a Dean search that will now be accelerated and, in the interim, Deputy Dean Ajit Rangnekar will hold charge as Dean of ISB.
Professor Rao has made enormous contributions to the ISB over the years and we will always be proud of achieving the
Financial Times Top 20 ranking under his leadership. He has
led the School through a critical period in its history growing our faculty pool and our research base significantly. However, given his personal proximity to the unfortunate controversy at Satyam
Computers, he has taken the decision to step down as Dean to protect the reputation of
the ISB in yet another example of his selfless commitment to building some of India’s leading management institutions like IIM Bangalore and ISB.
Placements@ ISB
While the placement performance of the ISB has been phenomenal these last few years, there are major challenges ahead for the 440 strong
Class of 2009. The meltdown in the financial sector and the slowdown in all major economies had their impact on the placement prospects this year. As a result of the relationships that have been built over the past years, most companies that have recruited in the past are continuing to recruit this year as well, but we do anticipate that the numbers that they recruit will go down significantly. As a strategy we have broadbased the number of companies targeted, with the result
that a number of new companies will be seen on campus during placement this year.
It is in times like these that alumni of the School should come forward to help out in the placement process. Do reach out to your contacts in companies and keep CAS informed of these contacts so that the placement for the
Class of 2009 is as good as, if not better than, previous years. The placement interviews began on January
17, 2009 and interviews will be held on each weekend till February
1st. Each weekend will constitute a placement day. Subsequently there will be the regular placement week starting on
February 14th. As has been the case in the past, the rolling placements process will be followed for students not placed at the end of the placement week.
