Rajat Seth, from the class of 2004, lists Music, Formula 1 racing and travel as his personal interests and says his biggest takeaway from the ISB is the friends he made.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your professional life after the ISB?

Having spent most of my life in Mumbai, I am a complete Bombay Boy. I come from a small nuclear family consisting of my parents, brother, sister-in-law and a little niece with an extended family in almost all parts of the world.

Post ISB, I paid more in tax than my CTC pre ISB. I started my career as a software engineer, doing programming, coding and very technical stuff. Post ISB, I joined the Information Management Leadership Programme at General Electric. In India, this is positioned as a very high visibility and fast track leadership programme for IM professionals. Post this I moved into a Programme Management role where I was responsible for strategic planning and execution of projects in the $1-3Multi -Million range. This made up my first 5 years at GE. Currently I am working in the IM/Quality area as a Lean Six Sigma process expert, focusing on making our teams more productive, doing more with less and improving quality.

What was your key takeaway from the ISB?

The big one was the friends I made… I have a place to crash in most big cities of the world now! I also learnt to keep an open mind and look at things from different perspectives- my study group consisted of CAs, engineers, an entrepreneur and someone from a family business background

What is your vision for the School? What are the strengths that the school can leverage upon and areas it can improve on?

It is three pronged: The ISB should be best in class and have a modern curriculum, it should have a strong and diverse intake profile and there should be high demand for graduates. The School’s biggest strength is its brand name, some people still gape when you mention the ISB. It needs to Improve, keeping in mind the vision stated above.

What do you think is the alumni’s role in building the school?

Alumni can contribute in the recruitment process – this is slightly longer term since it will take a while for a critical mass of ISB alums to be in hiring related decision making positions. They can act as Brand Ambassadors by representing the school well, promoting and propagating. Alumni can further give back to the school by participating in interviews and road shows. As an ISB community, we tend to volunteer only while in school, we should continue to do so post ISB.
