Linking Access to Stewardship: A Pathway for Introducing Reserve Antibiotics in India

A viewpoint published in the JAC Antimicrobial Resistance proposes a stewardship-linked access pathway to support the responsible introduction of reserve antibiotics in India. The article addresses India's dual challenge of limited access to life-saving antibiotics alongside their inappropriate use, arguing that access to newly launched reserve antibiotics should be linked to demonstrated antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) capabilities. The authors outline a practical framework centred on early planning, stewardship-driven procurement, digital capacity building, and real-time monitoring to ensure these critical medicines remain effective while reaching patients who need them most. NEW RESEARCH PROJECTS AND COLLABORATIONS

Assessing the Post-Adoption Value of NABH Digital Health Standards Researchers from the Max Institute of Healthcare Management at the Indian School of Business, in collaboration with the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH), have launched a pan-India study to evaluate the real-world implementation and post-adoption value of the NABH Digital Health Standards (DHS). The study will examine adoption drivers, implementation challenges, and the operational, financial, patient safety, and digital maturity outcomes across hospitals of varying sizes, accreditation levels, and geographies. The findings are expected to inform future refinements to the DHS framework and strengthen India's digital health ecosystem. Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration with Tata 1mg Indian School of Business has entered a research partnership with Tata 1mg to advance a long-term research agenda on healthcare decision-making, access and delivery, digital health platforms, and user behaviour. Facilitated by the Max Institute of Healthcare Management, the collaboration combines ISB's interdisciplinary research expertise with Tata 1mg's scale, data, and operational insights to generate rigorous academic research and actionable evidence for India's healthcare ecosystem. Research Collaboration with ICMR–National Institute for Research in Digital Health The Max Institute of Healthcare Management at the Indian School of Business has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ICMR–National Institute for Research in Digital Health (ICMR–NIRDH) to advance research and knowledge generation in digital health and healthcare management. The collaboration will support joint research initiatives, collaborative grant applications, knowledge exchange, and the dissemination of research to strengthen evidence-based decision-making and innovation in healthcare.

Advanced Management Programme for Healthcare (AMPH) Class of 2026 Study Trek

The Advanced Management Programme for Healthcare (AMPH) Class of 2026 undertook a study trek to Bengaluru, offering participants first-hand exposure to innovation across healthcare delivery, digital health, and medical technology. Led by Prof. Ganesh Krishnan, the cohort visited the Ultrahuman Performance Lab, Philips Innovation Centre, and BPL Medical Technologies, and engaged with industry leaders and entrepreneurs to gain insights into preventive healthcare, medtech innovation, product development, AI, and healthcare entrepreneurship. The study trek provided participants with practical perspectives on the evolving healthcare landscape, complementing their classroom learning.

ECOSYSTEM ENGAGEMENT

Workshop on AI Risk, Monitoring and Evaluation in Healthcare The Max Institute of Healthcare Management at the Indian School of Business, in collaboration with the ICMR–National Institute for Research in Digital Health, hosted a workshop on risk, monitoring, and evaluation of artificial intelligence in healthcare at the ISB Mohali campus. Bringing together leaders from government, academia, industry, and the healthcare ecosystem, the workshop focused on advancing evidence-based approaches for the responsible governance and evaluation of AI in India's healthcare system. Contributing to the Digital Health Policy Dialogue Sarang Deo, Professor of Operations Management and Executive Director of Max Institute of Healthcare Management at the Indian School of Business, participated in the Digital Health News Policy Roundtable in Hyderabad. He highlighted the importance of building a clear value proposition for digital health interoperability across stakeholders and emphasised that the success of India's digital health ecosystem depends not only on robust frameworks but also on the availability of high-quality data to enable meaningful adoption and scale

Advancing Evidence-Based Malaria Prevention Deepshikha Batheja, Principal Research Scientist, Max Institute of Healthcare Management at the Indian School of Business, presented findings from her co-authored research on malaria prevention at a consultation workshop in Surat, Gujarat. The study highlighted how socio-economic conditions, water management practices, and household behaviours shape vulnerability to mosquito-borne diseases in urban India and underscored the need for targeted public health interventions. Conducted in collaboration with Cornell University, New York University, Population Council, ICMR-NIMR, and the Surat Municipal Corporation, the research contributed to discussions with researchers, public health experts, and policymakers on strengthening urban health governance. Discussing AI Adoption in the Pharmaceutical Industry Madhu Viswanathan, Associate Professor of Marketing at the Indian School of Business, moderated a panel on AI for the Pharma Enterprise at the Life Sciences Commercial Summit. The discussion brought together industry leaders to examine how AI can be responsibly scaled across commercial operations, regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, and supply chains, highlighting the importance of governance, compliance, and human judgment in building trusted AI systems.
