The Mohali campus welcomed the founding class of the Management Programme for Family Businesses (MFAB) into their exciting first term. The Class is an eclectic mix of over 50 enthusiastic young business leaders, aspiring to take their businesses to the next level. Some of them shared their experiences on getting back to the classroom and continuing their learning experience with us.
Mumbai-based Rohan Keswani, is an engineer who joined his family business, Aluplex Pvt. Ltd as its director of Design and Engineering in 2009 after a stint at Oxford. This firm delves into designing, engineering, manufacturing and installation of façades of buildings. Responding to his new environment, Keswani appreciated the learning from his peer group. “We are all from similar backgrounds. This opportunity will help us understand the operating models of other firms; hence, a lot of peer learning,” he said. Keswani would like to use his MFAB learning to professionalise his company and build a strong team that can help his company grow.
Pawan Dabas is the COO of his family-run business, ST Forgings, which specialises in precision engineering products such as sanitary goods, auto components and aerospace goods. Dabas oversees the quality control and processes along with innovation in the company. He is looking forward to complementing his engineering skills with business knowledge that will help him expand to other segments. Returning to a classroom after a hiatus, Dabas is delighted. “It feels like I am 18 year again – living the same college life with sleepless nights,” he said.
Puneet Aggarwal, President, NBU – IT and Logistics at Darcl Logistics, is a keen learner. He has already completed some executive education programmes at ISB. He is happy to continue to learn while still managing his business. Aggarwal is looking forward to classroom discussions on case studies and learning about best practices.
Neha Gambhir, Director, Procurement, Golden Jubilee Hotels and her spouse Yashdeep Sharma – full time director of Hyderabad-based Maha Hotels Private Ltd, have joined the programme with the goal of understanding the business better. “I hope to gain a deeper understanding of Operations Management, Marketing and HR which will help me streamline these wings in my business” Sharma said while Gambhir is relieved that the curriculum can help individuals from a non-commerce background, such as herself, gain a broad business perspective.
Despite the many different motivations that led them to ISB, it is clear that these fearless business scions are preparing themselves to take on additional responsibilities and assume leadership positions in their businesses.
A strong foundation in management practices along with learning from their peers at ISB will help them in realising their dreams.
