As part of the International Student Exchange Programme, ISB hosts exchange students for two terms each year. This year around 45 students have visited the campus from all over the world. We spoke with some of them on their experiences at ISB.
Why ISB?
For Nick Jameson, who is from the United States, it was all about experiencing the energy in an emerging economy. “I wanted to be in a city that reflects the change, growth, and energy that is occurring throughout India. Hyderabad, with its growing tech sector, is the perfect launching point for me to see the Indian business environment first-hand as well as for me to branch out and explore India as a whole,” he said. Others were even more specific. South African Zaheera Sooma picked ISB from 39 other global B-schools because it was economical and family friendly. Elizabeth Charles from the US concurs. “I wanted to bring my family with me. I wanted my children to experience a developing country and thought Hyderabad would be a good place, where many people would speak English but, still, many things would be different and eye opening,” Charles said.
For Daniel Gaspersz, an exchange student from the Rotterdam School of Management, Hyderabad’s balmy winter offered a pleasant respite from the cold and snowy Netherlands. Appreciating the campus, Gaspersz is relieved that “ISB's big campus walls, great facilities and people definitely shield you from the chaos outside. It sometimes feels like living in a bubble of luxury and peace.”
ISB’s serene setting allows the students the luxury of experiencing India without undergoing any of the discomforts associated with travelling in a developing country. This, coupled with myriad activities such as sightseeing, food festivals, plays and yoga classes organised by SEAL (Student Engagement and Applied Learning), ensures that the students have a smooth transition to India.
