Can you tell us a little about your family background/ history?
I come from a business family from Bangalore. I have been married to Neha Jain since January 2011. She is a Marketing and Advertising industry professional. Neha and I currently live in Manchester, United Kingdom. I believe in the philosophy of Jainism and I am a strict vegetarian.

Briefly describe your personal and professional achievements (including recent awards/ special projects).
I authored a book on C programming titled "The Ocean of C Programs" in 2001. More than 25,000 copies of my book have been sold in central India.

On the professional front, I won many business plan competitions including “GENESIS 2010”, the prestigious B plan competition organised by General Electric Company. I also represented Wipro at many international level utilities industry conferences, such as the Solar EPC Summit 2011 in New Delhi where I shared the dais with prominent industry leaders.
On a personal note, I won the “Best Stand-Up Artist” award at Hamateur Night 2010 at the ISB.

Tell us about your profile pre-ISB, and recap your professional life after ISB including your career progression.
I began my career as an Engineer (Aviation and Energy) at General Electric Company, Bangalore, where I worked from 2005 to 2008. I then joined General Motors Limited in Bangalore as Senior Engineer (Automobile) in 2008 and left in 2009 to study at ISB. Post-ISB I became a Domain Consultant (Energy and Utilities) at Wipro Technologies.

Describe your fondest memory at ISB.
Receiving the “Best Stand-Up Artist” award from comedian-actor Vir Das at the ISB's Hamateur Night 2010 is my fondest memory at the school.

In your personal life, how have you changed post-ISB? Do you see yourself doing something differently because you went to ISB? What has left a lasting impression?
I learnt the act of effective multitasking at the ISB, It also happens to be the best gift ISB could give me as it helped me balance my professional work from my private life. This has had the most lasting impression on me.

How do you think ISB has contributed to your career growth?
It has completely changed my vision in terms of how I analyse issues. I see issues more holistically and in a better perspective because of the insights I gained at ISB. This has contributed immensely in my ability to articulate my ideas and communicate with senior management, putting forth my thoughts in a more rational matter.

If you have to sum up ISB in one word:
Priceless.

What was the main highlight of your programme at the ISB?
My specialisation in Finance and Marketing.

Word of advice for the current class?
Job placements are important, but that should not be your only goal at ISB. Managing your time at ISB is very critical. If you start strengthening your profile in areas related to the career you want to pursue from Day One, the rest will automatically follow. Aim for a decent CGPA, but do not forget to enjoy the complete experience of ISB. Believe me, you are going to miss it!

What was your favourite course/ class at ISB and why?
Competitive Strategy - I loved the concept of game theory.

Was there anyone during your time at ISB who acted as a mentor for you? Tell us a little about this relationship and why it was valuable.
No one in particular comes to my mind.

What are the areas in which you can contribute to ISB?
I was a part of “Goonj”, a welfare event organized to benefit the underprivileged. As part of the team, we facilitated the collection of three truckloads of used clothes for the underprivileged. I felt this was an important way to help contribute to ISB’s social responsibility efforts.

What do you enjoy most about your current career position?
What I enjoy most about my current position is the opportunity to interact with the senior management of various organisations. This experience has been very perceptive as learn a lot from their experiences.

What is the next new thing in the industry or vertical you are working in? Any trends that you can see?
Renewable Energy and the Smartgrid sector are key emerging areas. I can see a trend towards greater energy efficiency along with the smart management of energy (throughout its lifecycle) that will minimise carbon emissions and promote sustainable sources of solar and wind energy generation.
