CAF to author book on Indian Capital Markets
The Centre for Analytical Finance (CAF) at the ISB and Nomura
Institute for Capital Markets Research (NICMR), a think-tank
established by Nomura Securities, Japan, have entered into an
agreement to bring out an authoritative book on Indian capital
markets. The book is intended for foreign investors, analysts, and
others interested in Indian markets. Under the agreement, CAF will
be responsible for the content, including identifying and engaging
experts to write different sections of the book. NICMR will provide
funding for the project.
The book is expected to be ready for publication by December, 2008.
Under the agreement, CAF and NICMR will hold joint copyright to the
English-language edition of the book. NICMR will hold the right to a
Japanese translation. Following the first edition, the book will be
periodically updated.
This project is especially commendable as earlier NICMR has
partnered only with Brookings Institution, a highly regarded
think-tank based in Washington DC.

ISB Innovators Ace Metamorphosis Contest
Metamorphosis, the application discovery and business model contest recently
held at the ISB, had scientists, academia, government, and business school
students discussing market potential for select Indian grass root innovations.
The event was organised by the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club (EVC),
and the Wadhwani Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (WCED) and was
supported and partnered with the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government
of India, under its Technopreneur Promotion Programme (TePP). The first round of
the competition saw a total of 135 teams of students from various B-Schools and
IITs from across the country.
Team Hercules from the ISB, comprising Dr Kiran M Shete, Hardik Manek
Bharat, and Satish Kashyap walked away with the final accolade. Their
product, the Auto Distractor, designed by Prasad Kulkarni, is an
orthopaedic device that can transform the limb reconstruction procedure. The
team declared that at the ISB they have always been exposed to analyzing ideas
with a view to commercialize them. “The Metamorphosis experience has further
nurtured the entrepreneur inside us,” they voiced.
Team Water- Pranav Padgaonkar, Siva Prasath B and Vishal Dashora
also from the ISB came in second. Their innovation, Bachat Valve, is a
cut-off valve that blocks the inlet of the water tap in residences when there is
no water in the overhead tank. This prevents water from being wasted through the
taps when the overhead tank is refilled. It comes as a huge relief especially to
the multi-storey apartments in metros, where one resident’s mistake costs
everyone their day!

ISB Day – Six Years of Never-ending Celebrations
The Sixth Anniversary Celebrations of the Indian School of Business (ISB)
epitomised the incessant talent, the indomitable
mettle, and the essence of
community life, which the campus has in abundance. On December 9, 2007, the ISB
community - students, faculty, and staff- partook in the merriment, celebrating ISB’s sixth year of existence and excellence.
‘Future Leaders’, a colorfully costumed dance, saw tiny-tots dressed up as
freedom fighters and leaders, dancing to the tune of Vande Mataram. The
evening’s talent show proved to be a bag of never-ending surprises. Students
presented a spoof on what life at the ISB is like - from the moment they make
the decision to join the School, till those gruelling placement days. A
Mridangam recital and a classical vocal recital won much appreciation. A play
‘Marna Mana Hai’ put up jointly by the Theatre Club at the ISB and Microsoft
brought in much laughter and empathy. The evening's programme wound up with the
‘can’t be omitted’ Rock Show, organised by the student band.
On the occasion, Dean M R Rao felicitated members of the staff who completed
their five years of service at the ISB. He also presented mementos and gifts to
the winning participants of various competitions, that were held during the
entire month of November – rangoli, creative writing, binary cricket, treasure
hunt, quiz, to name a few. Guests were seen sharing light moments, while kids
huddled near the tattoo and craft corner and the inflatable slides, all arranged
to keep them occupied happily. (enclose one or two pictures )
The evening ended with an enjoyable dinner and lots of bonding till the next
year.
