New Leadership Programme in Infrastructure Management at ISB
Raj Kamal (Class of 2003)
Innovation, automation and digital - The next wave : The Indian IT
industry has come a long way in the past fifteen years. Limited arbitrage and
slowing pace of market share gains have narrowed options of Indian IT companies
to forge ahead. They will have to cement future growth through either: (1)
innovations; or (2) redefine delivery models, which will result in strategic
acquisitions and productivity.
India Autos Report - 2015 : India is world's sixth largest auto producer
and is expected it to pick up gradually over the course of FY 2015/16. Various
government initiatives such as boosting the manufacturing sector (through the
'Make In India' campaign) and fast tracking infrastructure projects will help
this sector to grow. There is also a positive response to the Indian auto sales
(sum total of passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle sales) market.
World Generic Market Report 2015 : In recent years there has been a trend
towards consolidation, both within the generics industry itself, and between the
generics industry and the branded industry. Also aside from the mergers and
acquisitions between generic firms, one notable development in recent years has
been the increasing interaction between branded and generic firms, both through
acquisitions and agreements.
India Infrastructure Report : Indian subsidiaries of multi-national
companies have been highly influenced by the global strategy of their parent
companies. When the strategy of the parent company is highly aligned to the
priorities of the Indian subsidiaries, it creates strong tailwinds for the India
business.
Asia-Pacific Media Sectors : Broadcast, print and new media are the three
key segments in the Asia-Pacific’s media industry. Local and regional media
content and products tend to be more popular than those with nationwide reach.
Since the access to electronic gadgets have increased, media content providers
have been experimenting with the mobility, real-time and audiovisual effects of
mobile tools.
Does Going Public Affect Innovation :
This paper investigates the effects of going public on innovation by comparing
the innovation activity of firms that go public with firms that withdraw their
initial public offering (IPO) filing and remain private.
How digital marketing operations can transform business :
Marketing operations is certainly not
the sexiest part of marketing, but it is becoming the most important one. With
businesses unable to keep pace with evolving consumer behavior and the marketing
landscape, the pressure is on to put marketing operations—skilled people,
efficient processes, and supportive technology—in a position to enable brands to
not just connect with customers but also shape their interactions.
Banks as patient fixed-income investors :
Traditional banks create money-like claims by
holding illiquid fixed-income assets to maturity, and they rely on deposit
insurance and costly equity capital to support this strategy. This strategy
allows bank depositors to remain sleepy.
Design as Strategy :
An introduction is presented in which the editor notes the theme of a special
section the value of introducing design thinking into strategic planning and
cites articles in the section on topics including food and beverage firm PepsiCo
design thinking as an approach to complexity and the design of disruptive
changes.
Friendships in Online Peer-To-Peer Lending Pipes, Prisms, and
Relational Herding : This paper
investigates how friendship relationships act as pipes, prisms, and herding
signals in a large online, peer-to-peer (P2P) lending site. By analyzing
decisions of lenders, we find that friends of the borrower, especially close
offline friends, act as financial pipes by lending money to the borrower.
White House Tells Business Schools to Make Women a Priority :
In a seven-hour meeting Wednesday with 150 business school deans and other
institutional leaders at an office west of the White House, the government's
Council on Women and Girls urged schools to do a better job at recruiting female
students and training MBAs to support a workforce that would be more flexible
for women.
B-school lessons vs corporate goals:
How much of what we know can we quantify, and how much of what we wish we knew
can be put down to a desire for accuracy? Accuracy, as I see it, is a failed
ideal the desire for which increases with every iteration, becoming more and
more pointed until we visualize it as if inside a test tube.
Why business schools are running in place :
The prophets of doom are circling above the b-school landscape, some gleefully
predicting the end of their amazing 40 year run of popularity and influence, and
others more solemnly anxious about what their future may be. While their
specific concerns may vary, the prophets all see significant disruption in the
world of higher education.
Activist Investors Are Shaking Up Business Schools, Too :
Investors like William Ackman and Daniel Loeb are amassing influence—and fans—in
M.B.A. programs, As a teenager, Christopher Crawford idolized Warren Buffett,
poring over the Berkshire Hathaway Inc. leader’s shareholder letters.
Evaluate business schools like a business:
The Brookings Institution just released a major study evaluating thousands of
American colleges. To analyze the “value” students can expect, researchers
looked at post-graduation salaries, rates of student-loan repayment, quality of
career services, and the like.
