EAL Search India Pvt Limited

Previous Occupation:: Controller, Nestle
Work Experience: About 10 years

Tell us about yourself – your profile, your professional life after ISB including your career progression.

I worked with Nestle for about six years before I came to the ISB. It was a fantastic and stable job but I wanted some entrepreneurial excitement in my job. My year at the ISB exposed me to multiple things in life so that I knew what I wanted going forward. I got into executive search, with a firm called Hunt Partners, out of the ISB. I worked with them for about two years, before moving to my current firm.

My primary reason for coming to the ISB was exposure to the best in education and the latest developments in Industry. And I am more than happy with what I got from the ISB. The ISB exceeded my expectations. If not for the ISB, I would not have got into this career.

What was your key takeaway from the ISB?

I did not view the ISB as a hunting ground for a job. The ISB changed and transformed me and that is the biggest achievement. My job as controller with Nestle was a very internal facing job. The ISB gave me the confidence and ability to take on a full fledged client facing job. The ISB really helped in this transformation of my personality. I did not come here with set expectations of a job at McKinsey or of becoming an investment banker. I came here with an open mind, which is the reason I got transformed.

How have you and your company dealt with global financial crisis? Were you affected?

Of course. We were also badly hit. The market just shrunk, so our clients stopped hiring. So we did not have much to do but we invested heavily in building relationships with both clients and candidates. And with the economy bouncing back, I think we are far stronger now than we ever were. We are doing great business. In the last six months we have done two years worth of business.

Can you share with us your favourite moments at the ISB?

I think the best part was being chosen for the Wharton Global Consulting Practicum. I was part of that initial team of five or so. It was a fantastic project. We worked with Mahindra and Mahindra to do some project study for them. I think that was a great moment.

Tell us a little bit about your hobbies.

We have a one-year-old baby, so now I spend most of my time with her. I continue to be a sports enthusiast. I play a lot of badminton. I also swim and do yoga. So sports and baby are the big things in my life now.

How do you manage your professional and personal life - being a Director and a Dad?

It is all about management. I have never faced a conflict between the two. When I work, I work. My work has not been as demanding as that of many others I would assume. We have normal working hours. We don’t need to put in too many extra hours.
