Dear Readers,

We are happy to present the first edition of the Faculty and Research Newsletter, a Quarterly Update of some of the exciting and important research taking place at ISB. This e-newsletter is a compilation of some of the most recent research by our faculty members, Centres, research achievements, funded research/grants, media contributions and mentions. We will also introduce new faculty members, visiting research scholars in the Newsletter, and outline upcoming events and conferences at ISB.

The objective of the Newsletter is to communicate knowledge generated at the institution and inform and engage our multiple stakeholders from academia and industry. Professor Anand Nandakumar and Professor Kannan Srikanth’s paper titled "Right person in the right place: How the host country IPR influences the distribution of inventors in the offshored R&D projects of multinational enterprises" was published in the Strategic Management Journal. Professor NagaLakshmi Damaraju has been nominated as the Chairperson of the Entrepreneurship and Strategy Interest Group at the Strategic Management Society.
Professor Milind Sohoni and Professor Lavanya Marla have been awarded the USIEF’s Obama–Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative award of $ 190,000 for a project.
Professor Ahmed Timoumi has joined ISB as an Assistant Professor in the Marketing Area.
Professor Mukesh Eswaran, Full Professor, Vancouver School of Economics, The University of British Columbia - Distinguished Visitor at ISB until July 17, 2015.


Effect of derivative gains/losses on CEO compensation
Firms use derivatives for hedging (reducing risk) and non-hedging purposes (possibly risky investments). These activities have a significant impact on the overall earnings of the firm. Should CEO compensation be based on such derivative gains/ losses? Professor Hariom Manchiraju and his co-authors examine whether derivative gains and losses affect the compensation of a CEO.

Towards more efficient HIV screening and treatment policies
A major challenge that healthcare systems often grapple with is how should they design their screening programs when there is limited capacity and resources for treatment. Professor Sarang Deo and his co-authors model this very relevant, practical and at the same time complex problem at the interface of operations management and public health.

Economics and Public Policy (EPP) Seminar series
As part of the Economics and Public Policy (EPP) Seminar series, Professor Rebecca Dizon-Ross, Prize Fellow in Economics, History, and Politics at Harvard University and Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, presented her paper titled “Parents’ Perceptions and Children’s Education: Experimental Evidence from Malawi” on June 12, 2015.

Prof. Sharon Alvarez, Koch Chair of Entrepreneurship, Department of Management, Endowed Chair, Daniels College of Business, University of Denver presented her paper titled “Opportunities and Institutions: A Co-creation Story of the King Crab Industry” on May 19, 2015.
